INFORMATION

The Chor zur Welt is looking for people with previous singing experience and and an interest in other cultures from autumn 2026

The Chor zur Welt brings together people and songs from all regions of the world. The 60 or so amateur singers perform music of other cultures in a variety of languages. Under the direction of Jörg Mall, the programme “At Home Anywhere” features the finest songs from the past 10 years of Chor zur Welt. The February concert focuses on choral music by contemporary female composers and takes the audience on a journey through the soundscapes of Asia.

  • First rehearsal: Monday, 31 August 2026
  • Rehearsal day & time: every Monday, 18:00–20:00 in Kaistudio 1 (Elbphilharmonie) or Studio E (Laeiszhalle)
  • Rehearsal weekend: 28-30 May 2027
  • Final rehearsals: 28 and 30 June, 2 July 2027
  • Concerts: 7 February 2027, at 17:00, in Körberhaus in Bergedorf and 2 July 2027, at 17:00 and 20:00, in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall
  • Admission to the choir takes place after an audition in small groups. The decision of the choir director is final.
  • Auditions will take place on 6 July 2026 from 17:00-20:00 at the Elbphilharmonie. Invitations will be sent out shortly beforehand. Feedback on acceptance into the choir will be given by 16 July 2026.
  • Participation is free of charge.

We look forward to receiving applications from tenors and basses who can regularly participate in the Monday rehearsals!

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

  • Participants must be aged 16 or older and living in Hamburg or the surrounding areas.
  • Travel and meal expenses cannot be reimbursed.
  • Participation is at participants’ own risk.
  • Applications can be completed online at elbphilharmonie.de/en/music-for-everyone
  • A participant will be selected by HamburgMusik (Promoter) after the application has been submitted and the participant’s audition has been successful. This selection is final.
  • Photos and/or audio and video recordings may be produced in the course of the Chor zur Welt project. The Promoter has the right to publish these images/recordings to document and advertise the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle programme (including on social media). Participants should expressly inform the Promoter if they do not agree to this.
  • Participants are prohibited from taking photos and making audio and video recordings during the event, and from publishing any such content on social media. The Promoter can grant permission upon request.
  • Regular participation in the choir and punctual attendance at rehearsals is a requirement. Participation in the concert is not possible in case of repeated absence.
  • It should be specifically noted that the copying of sheet music and scores is not permitted under German law.
  • A public musical performance by Chor zur Welt takes place as part of the choir’s concert schedule. The use of sheet music by the choir members as part of a public performance is to be agreed with the Promoter beforehand.
  • By sending in an application, all conditions of participation are automatically accepted. In all other matters, the decisions of the Promoter are binding.
  • The Promoter reserves the right to retract or make changes to the application process or content of the Terms & Conditions of Participation.
